A Week Away Synopsis
A Week Away is the first faith-based musical of its kind. Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn) has a choice to make – go to juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp. While at camp, and with the help of his music, new friends and love interest (Bailee Madison), he learns the healing powers of kindness, forgiveness, and faith can be found in the most unlikely of places.
A Week Away Review
This movie is everything you expect from a feel good movie musical. It has great music, amazing dance numbers and heartfelt story. This movie is perfect for kids of all ages but just a few things to keep in mind.
- There is kissing between two people
- Death of parents is brought up
- A Police chase happens in the film
Overall though this movie is very family friendly. I think the sweet spot in age would be around 8 or 9 but my 4 year old love the dancing and the singing so it’s definitely up to you. The kids will love the fun games and challenges the campers participated and you might find yourself booking a summer Camp for your little one after this movie.
Although it is heavily religious toned, with it being a Christian based church camp, it’s still enjoyable for all people of different faiths. No matter who or what you believe in the story of second chances, love and acceptance is important across the board. A Week Away did a really great job implementing these thoughts and feelings without being overly religious. As someone who doesn’t go to church or who doesn’t follow a particular group or faith. The message of love from a higher power really resonated with me and it’s a message I want my kids to follow.
My Overall Thoughts on A Week Away
This movie is a great film for families who are okay with mentions of God and religion. It is a feel good movie with incredible dancing and music. The story behind it is one that will resonate with anyone no matter your beliefs. I really enjoyed this film and all the nostalgia it brought to me. Not to mention the cast, Bailee Madison, Kevin Quinn, Jahbril Cook & Kay Conner Sterling were all amazing in this movie. It really made the movie what it was and was delivered perfectly.
