This year has been a whirlwind. What most of us thought would only last a few weeks has turned into 6 months with no end in sight. Now we are nearing the holiday season and we aren’t sure what to do. I know a lot of people are “going back to normal” but a lot of us are still taking precautions. With trick or treating being banned this year we are all trying to find a creative way to celebrate Halloween. So I decided I’d write a post to share Trick Or Treat Alternatives For Halloween 2020.

Trick Or Treat Alternatives For Halloween 2020

Family Halloween Movie Night

Having a family movie night with some yummy treats and popcorn can be a great alternative if you choose to stay home. You can bake your favorite spooky treat and watch your favorite movie. Have your kiddos dress up in their costume to make it extra special. If you need ideas on what to bake check out my Disney Halloween inspired Recipes. If you have little ones like I do you’ll want to make sure the movies aren’t so scary. Below are a few family friendly Halloween movies.

Family Friendly Halloween Movies:
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Spooky Buddies
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mickey’s Treat
  • HalloweenTown

These are just to name a few but check out Disney+, Amazon Prime TV and Netflix to see what they are offering this year.

Halloween Baking

I love to bake and will find any excuse to do it especially during the holidays. It’s been a fun way to bond with the kids and teach them something I love. Spooky cookies, cupcakes, and brownies are fun and easy to make as a family.

Halloween Crafts

Get creative and create fun Halloween crafts. Go to your local art store and buy some construction paper, markers, glitter everything you need to get creative. This can be a fun way to spend some quality time with your kids and get their little brains going.

Virtual Trick Or Treating

We were on a family walk and K and I were talking about ideas and we came up with Virtual Trick or Treating. The idea is call/text your friends and family ahead of time to and let them know what candy they will be “giving out…make sure it’s candy you have as well. Then have each person Facetime and when your kiddo answers have them say ” Trick or Treat.” then they’ll “give out” their assigned candy as you add if to their bag and move on to the next. It could be a lot of work but getting family or friends involved could be fun!

Virtual Costume Parade

If you have friends with little ones this could be a lot of fun. Set up a time that works best for everyone and have a Zoom Virtual Costume Parade. Each household will decorate their home or use a fun spooky background. Play some Halloween music and have each kid take turns showing off their costume. You can get super into it and creative and mail each household something you can all do together like a craft or something like that.

Halloween Candy Hunt

Like Easter but spookier. If you have a yard or live near a park this would be perfect. Use these cute little pumpkin containers and fill with candy. Hold a Halloween Candy hunt while your little one is dressed up in their Halloween costume. This will be a fun way to get them outside and is an easy way to maintain social distance.
