Thank you to Netlfix for allowing me to screen The Prom before its release. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! where do I start? My gay heart is so happy right now I can hardly contain it. The Prom is incredible! Every second of it. The Music, Oh my goodness the music was phenomenal. I literally bought the soundtrack the minute the movie as over. The Cast was star studded amazing in every way. From Kerry Washington to Meryl Streep! The movie was filled with amazing talent all around and it sucked you into a wonderful musical journey.
The Prom really hit home for me. When I came out my family took it really hard, so even though I am no longer a 17 year old girl in high school, long gone are those days HA. I could relate not only to Emma’s story but Barry (Tony Award winnerJames Corden) as well.
It Gets Better
There was a quote in the movie, that was actually part of Barry’s number ‘Barry Is Going To Prom’, where Barry sings “They say it gets better
Guess what? It doеs!” That really did it for me, okay, okay I’m a cryer. But I couldn’t help it. This movie was amazing and yes, it gets better, no matter what, IT DOES GET BETTER.
The Prom pulls at your heart strings and really makes you think about the way we treat those who are different than us. at the end of the day people, no matter who they love, just want to be treated like everyone else. They want to get married, have a family or simply just go to prom with whoever they want.
The film did a wonderful job in not only sharing Emma’s story but also sharing the hardships of those helping her. Each individual person was going through their own struggle and we were able to see their own personal growth throughout the movie.
The Music
The music honestly deserves its own section because it was that amazing. I didn’t really know what to expect but it is everything you would expect. I felt like I was watching a Broadway show in movie form. Which would make sense since it was adapted from one. But there was not one bad song. they all mixed so well into the movie and the moment that it made everything flow so smoothly.
There was one song I absolutely loved. It’s Called ‘Unruly Heart’ I won’t say much to not give anything away but that one brought me to tears. Another good one and one that I think A LOT of people need to hear is ‘Love Thy Neighbor.’ I want to say that title speaks for itself so i’ll leave it at that. Honestly the entire song and performance was amazing and it made me really happy they included it. Those were my favorites but honestly the entire soundtrack was a hit. The choreography was also amazing it made me almost want to get up and dance, almost…I don’t dance lol.
My Final Thoughts on The Prom
The Prom is the movie the world needs right now. It’s a movie EVERYONE needs to watch especially if their child/family member identifies with the LGBTQ+ Community. It’s a movie about being who you truly are and sticking to it no matter what. The Prom shares a story of bravery and strength but also of rejection and fear, something the LGBTQ+ community knows far to well. I believe The Prom can and will help those who may not understand fully that the life we want is just to live like everyone else. To be seen, to be heard and to be treated equally. Be sure to catch The Prom Coming to select Theaters and on Netflix on December 11th.
